The hens are doing a great job of laying despite the hot hot HEAT so our bundle of eggs is an even better deal for a few days. I just had a cheesy fried egg for lunch, with fried ends of broccoli from yesterday’s supper.
If you want something fancier than a fried egg we have ALLLL of the steaks available, including the most wonderful of the steaks the ribeye, and the porterhouse. ALL chicken parts are in stock and several bits and bobs are on sale, including neck ends that make perfect bone-in dog food for your fave pet.
When the kids and I got home from camping the farm had changed colour in our absence, along with most of the Okanagan valley. Our late-season water is scarce, and while we wouldn’t normally consider this ‘late’ it most certainly is in the scarce part of the summer. The pond liner is in, but the finishing touches still need to be wrapped up, and then we will be even more hopeful for some rain (along with everyone else).
In the meantime we’re checking on livestock thrice a day, making sure that the pigs have a wallow and a hose that is lightly misting them, the cows have ample water and the broiler chickens get a misting fan as soon as the temperature cracks 32 degrees in the middle of the day, so they have fans moving air around them and then the whole rovabarn will move them forward later this afternoon onto fresh ground.
