About the Poultry Abattoir at Fresh Valley Farms

Our small licensed poultry abattoir sits at Fresh Valley Farms in Armstrong. The team processes certified organic, pasture-raised poultry for local farmers. They also prepare the pork and beef for Fresh Valley Farms. This includes trimming, cutting, and wrapping red meat, plus making seasoned roasts and fresh sausages.

The business is a key part of the local food network in the North Okanagan. It helps small and medium farms get their poultry and meat to market. It also operates as a Certified Organic processor under the Fresh Valley Farms certification.

There is also room for candidates to take on farm work if they want to build more skills.

Who we are looking for

This role is a good fit for someone who likes fast-paced work and takes pride in doing a job well. The team values clear communication, attention to detail, and consistency. Being physically fit is important because the work is active. A Food Safe certificate helps, and experience in kitchens or using knives is useful. A strong interest in local food production is a plus. Training is available for people who want to learn.

What the job includes

Poultry processing includes working on a small line with two other staff. Tasks include trimming necks and feet, eviscerating chickens and turkeys, vacuuming cavities, checking for pin feathers, parting up birds, packaging, and cleaning. All work follows food safety procedures.

Meat cutting and wrapping includes working with the head butcher. Tasks include trimming, cutting, grinding, tying roasts, making sausages, and packaging meat for customers and farmers.

Job details

The position is permanent. Work hours range from 25 to 35 hours per week from May to November. Hours range from 10 to 20 hours per week from December to April. Wages are based on motivation and skill.
